Day-by-Day Itinerary
Morning departure from Nairobi around 8:00 am to make the most of the day in Tsavo West. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Tsavo West's foremost attraction is Mzima Springs, where up to 227.3 million liters of cool, crystal-clear water flows out of the ground through porous volcanic rocks, believed to originate from Chyulu Hills via an underground river. Meet the vast red-dust elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species. Dinner and overnight at Ol Tukai Lodge.
After breakfast, a full-day game drive with picnic lunch. Visit Roaring Rocks, named for the sound of lions roaring, with beautiful views over Tsavo from the top of its 98m rock face. Visit Poacher's Lookout, a hill in the centre of the park. Also visit the Chaimu Crater Viewpoint, a volcano less than 200 years old composed of black coke , excellent for spotting klipspringer. In the southwest corner is Lake Jipe, with the Kenyan-Tanzanian border running through it.
